hello everybody,do I get a certificate after the course

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no http://openstudy.com/#/updates/4ef89d33e4b01ad20b513505

I don't think that should be your primary concern. This course seems as though it could save you a lot of time. I am doing it because I want to know how all of this stuff works. If I become enamored with the subject matter, I might try to get certification from a local institution. If I have done a lot of these courses, I would guess that said institution would let me try and test out of them.

I have a degree in IT, but am going back because I really like programming and engineering, but don't want to get a degree(it costs too much). A certificate in programming/IT would be a great alternative to going to college for a degree. Certifications are great too.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but i don't think employee would really like to take people who has certificate from some online course

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Definitely not. The truth is that skills are more important than paper.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not completely true. Employers are starting to understand the value of a college education. There are certain skills that can be obtained from a college degree that are not so inherent within a certificate based workforce. Yes, they want experience; but a degree is a good indication of how much knowledge they have to work with from a potential employee. Certificates are great, but they don't detail an applicant's ability to lead, interact with colleagues, or maintain loyalty to a company. You could put the same amount of time gathering OTJ experience and still end up with a shorter paycheck. There's a reason why college graduates get more respect; it takes time, effort, dedication, and sometimes starvation to get that piece of paper. Companies are finding it an increasingly valuable asset.

I should also add that completing open coursework from a prestigious university is a great marker on a resume.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

as posted in previous post MITx won't give certificates with their name they will create a new organisation which would give certificates so you won't mix up them

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Kryptokitty, do you work in the field? I'm actually thinking about going back to school and getting my Masters in Computer Science. I need a job first. Please tell me, how can I indicate on my Resume that I took free courses?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Tomas, you are right, but I would say taking an MIT course without having to pay for it is pretty good.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah I agree it's great opportunity to learn at high level
