GEOMETRY HELP PLEASE.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

LMNO is a parallelogram. If NM = x+15 and OL = 4x +6, find the value of x and then find NM and OL.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

About what

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, since it is a parallelogram, you set NM = OL. Then you would get x=3. Each side would be 18.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it looks like this|dw:1325244073059:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so whats the valuce of x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk i am in 6ht grade so sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh its okay (:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

NM = x+15 and OL = 4x +6 And we know that NM = OL because a parallelogram is a quadrilateral that has two pairs of parallel sides. Solve for x x+15=4x+6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what does x equal ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You have to solve the equation x+15=4x+6 Isolate the variable x on one side (what ever you do to one side of an equation you have to do to the other) subtract x from both sides x-x+15=4x-x+6 15=3x+6 subtract 6 from both sides 15-6=3x+6-6 11=3x divide both sides by 3 \[\frac{11}{3} = \frac{3x}{3}\] and you are left with 11/3 = x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but im left with afraction so do i have to divide 11 by 3 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can use the fraction in NM = x+15 and OL = 4x +6 \[NM=\frac{11}{3} + 15\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know how to add fractions with unlike denominators?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\frac{11}{3}+\frac{15}{1}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do ththis
