Is it possible for a proton to leave the atomic core?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes it's called beta decay and it's a tricky subject but their are two types beta minus and beta plus. I think it's beta minus where the proton leaves the to change the atom identity.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What happens if all the protons leave?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not really sure but it may team up with another atom somewhere to form a new element in the beta plus decay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thats pretty cool!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

zbay i think you are wrong because in beta decay proton does not leave the atomic core but proton is convert into two fragement neutron and electron then this electron leave the atomic core its energy is in Mev.
