Why and how are the following compounds important to living things.? carbohydrates lipids nucleic acid protein amino acid

OpenStudy (anonymous):

cabohydrates are used in krebs cycle to release energy nucleic acid they are help in transsfering genetic material amino acid are used to make proteins not sure for lipids and proteins

OpenStudy (blues):

Carbohydrates provide a stable energy storage form. Nucleic acids store and transmit genetic material and some RNA molecules have catalytic abilities akin to proteins. Amino acids are the monomer building blocks of proteins: they consist of a backbone which connects them into peptides and side chains which confer structural (and functional) properties on those peptides. Lipids are an important energy storage form; some function in intracellular signalling pathways and they make up the membranes which hold cells and organelles together. Proteins are important because they perform almost all the structural, catalytic, transport and regulatory work in cells.

OpenStudy (kainui):

Lipids are important for separating parts of a cell! Without them there would be no way for cells to separate themselves from others and their organelles within them! They allow concentration gradients to exist for osmosis and diffusion!
