How do i do this? Am i doing it right? Dont give me the answer, just how to do it. ax - a = x - 1 solve for x ax=x-1+a x=x-1

OpenStudy (turingtest):

not quite. try getting the x's on the same side first, then you should be able to factor it (I'm assuming you're working on factoring.

OpenStudy (dumbcow):

last step is wrong. i would factor out the a on left side first

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is factoring? I dont recall seeing that in one of the videos.

OpenStudy (turingtest):

If you can't factor this is gonna be tricky, you should try to look up something on it, see if you can understand the idea. It'll be a good exercise on how to research a math concept. Here's a start: http://www.purplemath.com/modules/simpfact.htm try to find Khan videos on it too.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Isnt it better for me to go through the khan videos systematically?

OpenStudy (turingtest):

Where did you get this problem?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A guy gave it too me here on OS, why?

OpenStudy (turingtest):

Well then he didn't know that you had not yet studied factoring, so ignore it I guess and come back to it when you get there in khan. It's definitely a whole idea by itself, you will have to devote a fair amount of attention to it at first. Gets easy soon though :)

Ok, im looking forward to having a good understanding of these things!
