what is maturation promoting factor. can someone give a simple description about it..

OpenStudy (blues):

Maturation promoting factor is the 'generic' name given to to a heterodimer - a macromolecule made of two different protein subunits - composed of cyclin B and cyclin dependent kinase 1. The cyclin is a regulatory subunit; the kinase is the catalyic subunit. When conditions are 'right' for the cell to leave G2 and divide, the complex is activated by removal of a phosphate group attached to the cyclin. It assumes its active conformation and phosphorylates various proteins, all of which need to be phosphorylated for the cell to head on into mitosis.
