which of the following are linear equations in x1, x2, x3? a) x1 + 5x2 - sqrt2x3 = 1 b) x1 +3x2 + x1x3 = 2 c) x1 = -7x2 + 3x3 d) x1^-2 + x2 +8x3 = 5 e) x1^3/5 - 2x2 + x3 = 4 f) pix1 - sqrt2x2 + 1/3x3 = 7^1/3 ans = a) c) f) Please help, I dont understand how to do this

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A, C and F are correct. Linear means x1, x2 and x3 must be raised to no powers.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so aslong as their are no exponents its linear?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is there any way to show my work for this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

this is how the quesation is structured

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You can show other equations have exponents and therefore don't qualify as linear.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thank you so much

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Also, one of the has x1*x3, which is also non linear.
