Choose the proper form: a) In the sentence John feels happy, the word happy is the direct object. b) In sentance Give me the book, me is the indirect object. c) The words turn the page cannot be written as a sentence.

a) both b) and c) contain at least one error; "the" missing from b), for example.

A direct object is that which has an action done to it, whereas an indirect object is (usually) the "to whom." Now, let's look at those sentences: A) First, "feels" is a reflexive verb, which means that it refers back to the subject (when you "feel" something, you are kind of both doing an action and having the action done to you). Reflexive verbs like "to feel" have the subject as a direct object as well. So it's not this one. C) Turn the page. That sounds like a valid commanding sentence, right? Let's leave this for now. B) Give me the book. Here, we are also commanding, but that's fine. If i was to say this, I would be commanding you, so you are the subject here. You are giving me something, the direct object of the sentence which has the action done to it: in this case, the book. But where is that book headed? To me, right? Since the "to whom" here is me, I'm the indirect object of the sentence and not the book. Ergo, B isn't right, either. C remains all nice and pretty, so there's our answer!
