I need help with these questions. The average mail carrier walks 4.8 kilometers in a work day. How far do most mail carriers walk in a 6- day week? There are 27 working days in July, so how far will a mail carrier walk in July?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

To solve the first question, you need to multiply the average distance walked by the mail carrier (4.8) by 6.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4.8 * 6 ----

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I dont understand.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no ur wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its 4.8x6x27

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thats too hard for me.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i'll explain now

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Hawk, thats for the final answer of the question. For the first part of the question, they ask for only a single week. @Caelob We can work out the product of 4.8 and 6 step by step

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Hawk one step at a time. There are two answers and she needs help with the multiplication step by step

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea i see

OpenStudy (anonymous):

... no worries ...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4.8 * 6 ---- First step is to multiply 8 by 6 to get 48; we carry the 4 up and write down 8 4 4.8 * 6 ---- 8. next step is to multiply 4 by 6, to get 24.. and then add 4 to that to get 28 and write that down 4.8 * 6 ---- 286. Finally, to get the decimal places right in the number, we move the decimal place left by one place (since the first number has one decimal place, and the second number has 0 decimal places) so that the final answer is 28.6 kilometers 4.8 * 6 ---- 28.6 kilometers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u mean 28.8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oops right :-P the answer is 28.8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that only for the first part of the question though. next part of the question involves multiplying 4.8 by 27

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea explain it to him

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Give it a try, Caelob :-D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u understand it so far right caelob?
