can someone help me pls. What is wrong with these sentences Boys ate every bit of the eggs, bacon, and grits that were in the refrigerator.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry it's just one sentence.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's an odd sentence. Are we talking about particular boys? Or boys in general? If particular, it should be "The boys." I would also drop "that were." So: The boys ate every bit of the eggs, bacon and grits in the refrigerator.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"[E]very bit" is a singular noun, but "were" implies that what is in the refrigerator is plural. Even though "eggs, bacon, and grits" is a list of three things, if they're combined into "every bit," it's just a singular deal.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just to be clear: if we're going to be using a singular noun phrase here, we need to change "were" to "was" to keep the agreement proper.
