What wavelength is magenta light? does this question make sense
http://www.gamonline.com/catalog/colortheory/images/spectrum.gif You tell us ... what you do want magenta to be. 730 nm?
730 nm is red . and i cant find magenta on the spectrum
I'm saying you decide what color is closest to your concept of magenta on the spectrum, and say that's he wavelength. But you might be asking a different question: is there some sort of standard definition of magenta? Then the best thing to do is use a Pantone color: Pantone has a large number of standardized colors.

I am alluding to the fact that magenta light is not monochromatic
Ok, so basically you want to know its Fourier transform.
i had not thought of that james, but that is what i want
Magenta is Red AND Blue, so i guess it has two wavelengths
If you find an accepted answer, let me know.
I think this might help: http://chemistry.about.com/od/colorchemistry/f/how-magenta-works.htm
