Find the upper quartile of this set of ordered data to the nearest whole number. 21- 25 -25-39-34-38-45-49

OpenStudy (amistre64):

are those negative numbers? or just seperations?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

a quartile is a percentile(0,25,50,75,200)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

seperations

OpenStudy (amistre64):

upper would start are P75 ........ 100, not 200

OpenStudy (amistre64):

there are 8 data positions; 75% of 8 = .... the position of the start of the upper quartile

OpenStudy (amistre64):

21 25: 25 39: 34 38: 45 49: q1 q2 q3 q4 might be easier to do it this way

OpenStudy (amistre64):

there is some odd rule about landing on a number ... id have to refresh my memory to be sure

OpenStudy (amistre64):

The Upper Quartile Q3 is that number such that 75% of observations are less than it and 25% are larger, or to be more precise, at least 75% of the sorted values are less than or equal to Q3, and at least 25% of the values are greater than or equal to Q3. - from google search If the position is a whole number, the lower quartile is midway between the L3-th value and the next one.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

8 positions * 75% = 6 6 is a whole number so we take the average of the 6th and 7th positions to be the upper quartile

OpenStudy (amistre64):

38+45 ------ 2
