The root of a perfect square can be negative, positive, both, or neither?

wow you will get some different answers for this one. i believe it is the case that a perfect square has two "square roots" a positive one and a negative one. say for example you have 25 then \[(-5)^2=25,5^2=25\] so 25 has two square roots. 5 and -5 however, \[\sqrt{25}\] means the positive square root so \[\sqrt{25}=5\]
