A person throws a tennis ball up in the air and then lets it land on the ground. Describe how the velocity, displacement and acceleration change throughout the balls motion.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

as the ball goes up, the velocity as well as the acceleration decrease whereas the displacement increases. at the highest point the displacement is maximum while velocity and acceleration are zero. on hte way back, the inverse happens. on reaching the ground everything goes back to zero( not taking into consideration that the ball bounces back).

Thanks a million! Just out of curiosity though, what happens if the ball were to bounce back? Would one again say the ball accelerates, the velocity then decreases as the ball rises and the displacement increases?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, its the same
