OpenStudy (aravindg):

how does an acrobat employ the conservation of angular momentum in her performance? ???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Conservation of angular momentum is a conserved quantity for every point of the acrobat. For example, if the acrobat start spinning with his arm stretched, and then make them stick to his body, his speed will increase : that is because the angular momentum of the acrobat is conserved, and the distance of his hands from the center of rotation is reduced. (The angular momentum depends on rotationnal speed and distance to the center. If the momentum is conserved, and the distance is reduced, then the speed must go up.)

thanx

nice explanation

This is demonstrated in this MIT lecture at 17:35 http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/physics/8-01-physics-i-classical-mechanics-fall-1999/video-lectures/lecture-20/ You'll have a much easier time with all these questions after you watch these lectures, as we've discussed.
