area of circle is pir^2 = pi*2.5^2 side of square by pythagoras 5^2 = 2x^2 x^2 = 12.5 = area of the square area of circle = pi * 6.25 = 19.63 difference in areas = 19.63 - 12.5 = 7.13 sq ins
