Factor: x^3+64

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can someone please help me though??

hero (hero):

In general, when factoring the sum of two cubes, use the following formula: \[x^3 + y^3 = (x + y)(x^2 - xy + y^2)\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer is \[(x+4)(x ^{2}+4x+16)\] ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what if it said factor: \[x ^{3}-125\]? then what do I do?

hero (hero):

You factored it, however, you made a slight mistake. 4x should be negative, not positive. As for the difference of cubes, the general formula is \[(x-y)(x^2+xy+y^2)\]
