OpenStudy (karatechopper):

what happens when your slope is undefined and you have to write a line perpendicular to it? how would u do that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

slope undefined is= to any number say x/0

OpenStudy (karatechopper):

?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the slope is x/0 u can tell by the line i beleive

OpenStudy (karatechopper):

no i have to fine the slope and it ended up as -6/0 and then the second part of question was to write an equation with perpendicular slope

OpenStudy (karatechopper):

how will i do that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The slope of a vertical line is undefined i.e x/0. Now if your are told to find or write the equation of a line perpendicular to it, then you simply have to remember one thing. Slopes of perpendicular lines are negative reciprocals of each other and vertical lines and horizontal lines are perpendicular to each other. Thus in this case the slope of the horizontal line would be simple 0

OpenStudy (phi):

a horizontal line is perpendicular to a vertical line. a horizontal line has slope 0

OpenStudy (phi):

notice that the rule -1/m works for m= -6/0 you get 0/6 = 0 for the slope of the perpendicular line

OpenStudy (anonymous):

vertical line -6/0-------->negative ricprocal for perpindcular line---->0/6 or 0
