What's the best way to approach 3-d modeling, and drawing the different views of an object?

I'm not sure I understand the question. For 3D modeling and computer assisted design in general, you will want to be very familiar with isometric, oblique, and orthographic views, as well as one and two point perspectives if you ever have to do any sort of rendering. All of the principles you learn in 2D drafting will be useful in 3D as well. The general method I've always used when drafting in 2D or 3D is to rough out the basic shape of the object, then add the holes to it, then finally fillet or cut any edges that need to be cut. After the shape is drawn I clean up any stray construction lines then dimension and annotate the drawing.

You may use 'AutoCAD' for drawing different views of an object and then rendering it into '3D Studio Max' for 3D modeling.I think this is the best way to approach.

let me tell you,, once you how use 3D softwares, you need worry about creating views,, as because its automatically generated,,,but for a 2D softwares u need to create your own, plan ,elevation and side views.............
