explain how english colonies were different in terms of population, government, and origin
The colonies differed in population based on region. Massachusetts and New York had large populations centered on the coast, as did Virginia, because they were centers of commerce. Some states were royal colonies, with an appointed governors. Others had governors and councils elected by the adult white males. Not all of the colonies were English. North Carolina was founded by Scotch-Irish. New York was originally Dutch. Delaware was Swedish. The colonies in New England were founded for religious purposes, as was Pennsylvania. Southern colonies were found for commercial reasons. Georgia was specifically set up for second chances for Englishmen in debt.
