please help.vertical asymptotes of f(x)=-4/x^2-3x-4

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Vertical asymptotes occur when the denominator is 0. So factor the denominator. Set each factor equal to 0 and find the x values that cause the factor to be 0. The vertical lines through those x values are the vertical asymptotes.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

for example: your denominator has these factors: (x-4)(x+1) If x-4=0 x=4 so x=4 is a vertical asymptote. If x+1=0, x=-1 so x=-1 is also a vertical asymptote.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it -1 and 4?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

x=-1 and x=4 The asymptotes are lines. You must give their equations.
