How is the Haitian Rebellion different from the American Revolution?

The Haitian Rebellion was led by slaves who fought to free themselves. The Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen was approved in France two years earlier, basically declaring everyone equal. The slaves hoped for equal treatment under this, but when it didn't happen, it reached a boiling point that culminated in the Haitian Rebellion.

The participants of the American Revolution were colonists who fought for their own independence from the British crown. They weren't slaves and were seen as subjects of the Crown. However, they begun seeing themselves as independent from Britain and had been increasingly antagonized by the Crown's efforts to enforce its rule over them. 

Both sought independence and freedom, though their backgrounds were very different.
