how many bits are in a gigabyte in exponential form?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

An exponent is used in mathematical notation to tell you to raise the base number to the power designated by the exponent. It appears above and to the right of the base, in much the same way the number denoting a footnote appears above and to the right of a word in a report. There are particular rules for working with exponents, which are used in many formulas and measurements. For your answer try to multiply by 4 to the power of 5 = 1024 (4x4x4x4x4) You can write it as 10^3 for 1000. That would be the most common way, but there's many other correct ways to write it. The exponent is the number of times the base is multiplied by itself. For example, 4 followed by an exponent of 2 indicates you should multiply 4 by itself. (4 x 4 = 16.) 4 followed by an exponent of 3 indicates you should multiply 4 by itself three times. (4 x 4 x 4 = 64.) Exponents can be positive or negative numbers. Zero can also be an exponent 1 megabyte = 1024 kilobytes.

OpenStudy (ash2326):

1 GB=1 1024 MB= 2^10 MB 1 MB= 1024 KB=2^10 KB 1 KB= 1024 Bytes= 2^10 Bytes 1 byte = 8 bits= 2^3 bits so 1GB=\(2^{10}*2^{10}*2^{10}*2^3\) bits or 1GB=\(2^{33}\) bits
