two forces, with magnitudes 13N and 9N, act on an object. the magnitude of the resultant force is 19.16N. find the angle at which the two forces are acting on each other

?

OpenStudy (jamesj):

Start with a diagram, putting one of the vectors on the x-axis to make the calculations easier. I'll put the 13 N one there.|dw:1329781700249:dw|

OpenStudy (jamesj):

Now, find the resultant force in terms of these two forces, writing theta say for the angle between them. To do that, find the sum of the x-components of both forces, and the y-component of the 9 N force.

I have part-answered the same question which was posted in the mathematics group here: http://openstudy.com/updates/4f42d8dbe4b065f388dc6195

If I may offer another solution one can also use the Law of Cosines to solve the problem. |dw:1329781935509:dw|
