This is about the novel Frankenstein and i am stumped. . Do you think that characters such as Robert Walton, Elizabeth Lavenza, and Henry Clerval are one-dimensional and simplistic, or do you think Shelley has given enough details to make them fully rounded characters?
Well, what do you think? What does it mean for a character to be one-dimensional and simplistic? What does it mean for a character to be fully rounded? You must have been given some of the qualities of both in your class, right? Review that list. Remember, this is not an absolute science: there is judgment involved. If you haven't got that list, or if you would like to check it, you might start here, with these two definitions -- http://web.cn.edu/kwheeler/lit_terms_F.html#flat_character_anchor http://web.cn.edu/kwheeler/lit_terms_R.html#round_character_anchor Now think about where these three characters you are considering appear in novel. What do they do or say? Are they ever surprising? Do they feel real? Consider each of them in turn, in light of your list of identifying characteristics for flat and round characters. Then you make that assessment, based on your review of their appearance in the novel itself. You should be able to support that assessment, if asked to, by details from the story that you believe identify them as one or the other type.
