Stuck, in this question...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ummm but how?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-1,0?

hero (hero):

How did you get stuck in the question? Maybe someone should pull you out.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1330119809344:dw|

OpenStudy (amistre64):

wll, snas got the direction correct; now for the count :)

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Now put your pencil on (0,-2)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

one question might be, how do you know to do that ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh so -2 & 0

OpenStudy (amistre64):

lol ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so for part b its 5 up?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

only x-axis changes??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like 5,0?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you're moving up or down, the y-coordinate is changing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it will be 0,5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you are supposed to be graphing y=f(x) right, if so then (b) will be moving down 5 after you subtract 5 from each side

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so if we solve b for y we get; y=2x-7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

where did u get 0,5 from?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i'm confused so is it going up or down?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

he added 5 to the y-coordinate and 0 to the x-coordinate. pretty sure you're supposed to be going down though. 5+5=2-2, false

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-5+5=2-2, true

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think its 5 down

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y+5=2x-2 y=2x-2-5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so he is subtracting 5 on both sides.. and it goes down!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes but then if you substitute your x and y coordinates, you get a false equation. So perhaps you are wrong? The point(1,5) is not on the line of y+5=2x-2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it (1,5) or (1,-5)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wht mertsj is saying that in the equation: y+5=2x-2.. its +5 thts it goes up..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(1,-5). don't know why mertsj is being a wingspan

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wingspan? i didn't type that lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[y+5=2x-2, y=2x-7?\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

anyways, the graph of y+5=2x-2 is the graph of y=2x-2 shifted down 5 units

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so a and b are gona look like.. |dw:1330121028819:dw|
