Are the cells in a biopsi the same for Rotavirus as they are for Crohns disease?
That all depends on if the Crohns disease was caused by Rotavirus or not, if not then there should be no resemblance when examining the biopsi.
My son's stool samples said he had a rotavirus. 2 doctors said it was a false positive. a barium test showed he was fine. an upper & lower gi & biopsi was then taken. the biopsi said it was crohns. his doctors want him on strong medicine. a year later without being on anything he shows no signs. he's always been healthy. i think these doctors misdiagnosed him. his new doctor said he doesnt need medicine but he cant prove he doesnt have crohns. my son has gone through torture with these doctors.
My condolences but without reading your sons medical chart i wouldn't be able to make any educated diagnosis, Rotavirus is not a chronical infection, it should usually pass within two weeks without medication. It has been observed that Rotavirus has in some very rare cases been associated with Crohn's disease. If it is Crohn's disease he should have been treated with aminosalicylic acid, if no improvement had been observed the next course of action would be Glucocorticoids. The tricky matter about Glucocorticoids is that administrating them might relief symptoms, but it doesn't necessary conclude that the patient has Crohn's disease. Since their effect is central therefore they could be relieving symptoms of something mimicing Crohn's disease. What did suprise me in your story is that the Doctor decided to do a biopsy, there are more far less drastic methods to conclude the diagnose. Again i wouldn't want to speculate on alternative diagnosis without all the information. If you feel that your doctor isn't competent you should allways get a second opinion, but keep in mind that if your son is on "Heavy medication" then his symptom picture is diffrent and it would be harder to diagnose since some of his current health problems may be a side-effect of the medication. I advice you to mention it a few times that he is on heavy medication to the Doctor you'd be getting the second opinion from. If you decide it is what you want to do. A site i usually recommend for people in doubt of their diagnose is " http://www.rightdiagnosis.com/symptomcenter.htm " I wish you and your son best of luck.
