Ralph is taking scuba diving classes, and is warned not to hold his breath when ascending from depth but to continuously release air from his mouth. What is the the basic instruction and what is the risk if it is ignored? Thank you so much!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

As a diver ascend the preasure decreases and the Air molecules starts to expand, risks includes but not limited to: Lungburst, or eardrup burst.

OpenStudy (blues):

Burst eardrums and lungs are certainly a possibility. Actually, the common problem is that bubbles of air form in the blood vessels. In and of themselves, they are excruciatingly painful - people may become dehibilitated and drown. And they actually block blood vessels, in which case they are known as emboli (singular: embolism) and cause strokes.
