Tell whether the equation represents a direct variation. If so identify the constant of variation. y = 2x - 9

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

2 i think..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2 = m, which is the variable i think

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

wait. 2 is not the variable. it's a co-efficent.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the constant

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well by varaible i meant constant i guess, it's the slope to which y and x will vary to each other. i dont think the y-intercept will have any effect on the matter..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think im wrong actually, because with direct variation it always has to go through the point (0,0) so the y-intercept is actually KEY to the whole matter lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

direct variation means y=kx in your question it isn't

no not direct because of the -9
