What is the plant tissue responsible for limiting water loss?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The plant tissue that regulates water loss is called Stomata. Can't tell you much more about it, im a novice on plantlife, but im sure you can find the associated information you'd need to go further indepth with the knowlegde of the active component.

cuticle ?

OpenStudy (rogue):

Although the waxy cuticle does prevent dessication, its not really a tissue as much as it is just a layer made up of secreted cutin. Stomata is the tissue that...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Stomata is not exactly a tissue, it is a structure composed of two cells that act as a door that opens and closes according to the needs of the plant. Besides loss of water, it is the gateway for Co2 intake necessary for the process of photosynthesis to take place. water is lost as water vapor during the process of transpiration. Stomata regulate the temperature of the plant, it remains usually closed during day and open at night. Cuticle is also helps in getting the job done.

OpenStudy (rogue):

Well, stomata is in the leaf tissue, so...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes but that does not make it a tissue. stomata are two cells surrounded by another special cells (compannion cells) that open and close regulating

OpenStudy (anonymous):

stomata are minute pores mostly on the under surface of leaves surrounded but guard cells. i dont think any plant tissue checks transpiration as such! the fact that stomata are on the undersurface should do the job shielding it from sun rays...
