Linear Approximation x^4+3x^2 when a=-1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

PLEASE HELP

OpenStudy (anonymous):

where is a'

OpenStudy (anonymous):

THE FORMULA IS F(a)+f'(a)(x-a)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The answer is -10x-6 but I don tknow how

myininaya (myininaya):

Ok so we have \[f(x)=x^4+3x^2\] To find the equation of the tangent line, y=mx+b, we need the slope at x=a and we also need to know where the x=a is, (a,f(a)). So if we know a point and we know the slope we are good to go! :) To find slope do f'(x=a=-1)

myininaya (myininaya):

What is f'(x)?
