How do I identify and predict whether y=5-2x is a function? Also how do I graph this function?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well this is just a line....to graph just plot some points(at least 2) and connect the dots...or....: http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=plot+y%3D5-2x+

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but like how?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

also how did you know it was a linear function?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like ....say x=0 for x=0 y=5 plot the point(0,5) then for x=1 y=3 plot (1,3) now connect those two point and you got a line...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why did you choose x=0, and then x=1, y=3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just for simplicity...sometimes you have to go to infinity to find the properties of a function(or take a really big number for that matter)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh, okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now....complex function with exponents always are cutcy....increasing decreasing and generally complicated

OpenStudy (anonymous):

curvy=cutcy...lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

while a line hasn't got any powers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh, alright

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah...just study some basic function....like 1/x or x^2 plot some points and you are on your way

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now give me a medal...thanks :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh, okay lol thanks!
