There are 4 pots for every 3 pans for every 21 glasses. There are a total of 476 dishes. How many pans are there?
Right now what I've done is this: X= number of pans. 3x+4x+21x=476. Yes, it's totally stupid. Help please??? :/
set up the ratio
4:3:21
4:3:21
now i have to wonder if i read this right
is it 4 pots for every 3 pans; and 3 pans for every 21 glasses? which might amount to the same thing or is it 4 pots for every 3 pans for every 21 glasses; and 4 pots for every 21 glasses ?
that last bit should read or is it 4 pots for every 3 pans; and 4 pots for every 21 glasses ?
It is A, I believe. The way that I wrote it in the question is just as it was in the algebra book.
if we stick to ratios then: 4:3:21 is a total of 28 dishes (4+3+21)
476/ 28 = some number that we can scale it all by
so; 17 it is 17(4:3:21 = 28) is 68:51:347 = 476
Wait. I don't quite understand what you're saying. Where does the 17 come from???
if all we had was 4 and 3 and 21; how many dishes would we have all together?
28.
476 divided by 28 is 17.
so, they tell us that its the same ratio; but alot more dishes. 28 times (what) = 476 ?
correct
i have now read this four times and i cannot make sense out of it at all
then our ratio is the same; its just scaled by 17
It's all lit up in shining colors now! Thanks so much, amistre64.
what are the "dishes"??
lol, youre welcome :)
It's a word problem. They use little objects like "dishes" to make it seem like a real life problem.
in real life, i have a bowl, a spoon, and a straw
they let you have a straw? i only got the spork
its a bendy lol
which would be fine if it was designed to be a bendy ... but
