Semicolon Help please :) I can't put my actual sentence as Turnitin will say I plagiarized from my own question :P But my sentence structure is like this: Ice cubes melt when heated; hence that is why I believe they should be placed in refrigerators. Do I use a semicolon before hence?

OpenStudy (mani_jha):

Actually, I don't think that you need to put 'hence' and 'that is why' in the same sentence. Both phrases do the work of explaining a reason or result. Yes the semi-colon is not wrong, but the sentence should be either of the following: Ice cubes melt when heated; hence I believe they should be placed in refrigerators. Ice cubes melt when heated; that is why I believe they should be placed in refrigerators.

Fixed it! Thanks!
