Need help with some Organic chemistry problems

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Any help with these would be very much appreciated, as I'm finding it hard to find much information on these kinds of reactions

Sorry I can't be of much help (my ochem books are SOMEWHERE but I can't find them at this moment). But for your first question, you'll have an alkene that goes to an epoxide. Next, epoxide reacts hydroxide. Look at the last reaction type in this link. I think in your intermediate step, you'll have an two epoxides, one on each carbon.

If you count the carbon to the left with the phenol attached to it as carbon 1, then I'd say you would have a double bond between carbon 1 and 2. Then you'll have a double bond between carbon 3 and 4.

I figured out all these questions thanks for the help though

Oh good :-) I like ochem, wish I could go back.
