http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=2x^%282%2F3%29+%2B+y^%282%2F3%29+derivative 2x^(2/3) + y^(2/3) Wolfram alpha shows that "the derivative of y^(2/3) is 0. I thought the derivative should be 2/(3*cuberoot(y)). Can anyone explain the logic behind this?

OpenStudy (kinggeorge):

Wolfram is differentiating with respect to x. Since there's no x term, the derivative is 0.
