A bakery charges $.10 for a cookie that is 2 inches in diameter. If the price is proportional to the area, how much do they charge for an extra large cookie that is ten inches in diameter? Assume that each cookie is shaped of a circle.

my given was wrong sorry :))

I think the area is proportional to the square of the diameter. Without worrying about the values of pi, the ten inch cookie has 25 times the area of the two incher. So I'd say it should be about $2.50 each.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yep. Area increases as the square of the diameter. The two inch cookie has an area of pi. The ten inch cookie has an area of 25pi. That is 25 times as much, ergo charge 25 times as much.

i think animal might have it the formula for area is this\[A=r ^{2}\Pi\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the end part is Pi
