Interesting questions. Lets see if I can explain one or more of them....
1. The median might or might not be an observed value of the set. For example, if there are an even number of items, the median will fall halfway between two of them, such that half the data is above, and half is below. Of course, this wouldn't happen if both of those data points (nearest the median) had the same value.
