the mean doesn't influence the standard deviation right?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

they are 2 separate units of measure i beleive

OpenStudy (amistre64):

it like asking of circumference influence color

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thanks

OpenStudy (amistre64):

2 different data sets can have different means and the same sd they can also have the same means and different sds

OpenStudy (amistre64):

you calculate a mean of a data set in order to determine that sets sd ...so in that respect it would influence it

OpenStudy (amistre64):

but the question is a bit vague

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No I mean, the standard deviation is the spread of a data set. The mean is the expected value, or an average. The two are different and don't influence the other right? I know you need one to calculate the other but they are still two separate things dealing with different stuff.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

2 things dealing with 2 different aspects of stuff; yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks

OpenStudy (amistre64):

one point of considerationtho is that the mean is in finding the the variance and standard deviation; so in that respect the mean would play some part in determing the sd

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the mean is used in finding ....
