The leaning tower of pizza is 185 ft tall, a model of the tower is 6ft tall. Find the ratio, a. 1 : 290 b. 1 : 330 c. 1 : 370

OpenStudy (istim):

Guess you could divide 185 by 6. Does that help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

not really because thsat not an option

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can someone help me?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

theres my book if that helps any....

OpenStudy (istim):

I can't access that link; it's probably exclusive for you.

OpenStudy (istim):

6:185. Then we work from there...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im almost positive it will work

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Page 338 #2

OpenStudy (raspberryjam):

IsTim is right. In order to simplify this ratio you have to divide both sides by six so it gives you a 1:x ratio. Also when I click that link it goes to a geometry book...page 338 is about trapezoids..

OpenStudy (istim):

Raspberry is correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i m

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i ment 368

OpenStudy (istim):

A funny one you are. Have you looked through the provided examples? Those help me when I do these questions.

OpenStudy (raspberryjam):

That question isn't multiple choice. So you should just simplify it like IsTim and I mentioned above and you should get the right answer.

OpenStudy (istim):

Actually, it doesn't seem that the examples are provided...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah i did but im confused,,,,,,,,,

OpenStudy (istim):

I'm confused on this matter too...

OpenStudy (raspberryjam):

Selena what are you confused about?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ras my teacher provides the multiple choice to them

OpenStudy (istim):

Well, both of my ways to get ratios isn't working here.

OpenStudy (istim):

1. Add up the values, and then divide then by a provided number to get one side. Subtract that divided number from the total, and apply to other side. 2. Divide both sides by a number so that the value of the lowest number becomes 1.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do you do that with a number like 6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

besides all of the answer options are highter than 185

OpenStudy (anonymous):

besides all of the answer options are highter than 185

OpenStudy (raspberryjam):

You divide both sides by 6. So then the ratio becomes 1:185/6. I don't think your teacher gave the right multiple choice answers in this case. Are you positive they go with this question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, im positive

OpenStudy (raspberryjam):

OH I KNOW WHY. It is because it is in inches. So you should convert 6 inches to feet first.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How do i do that?

OpenStudy (raspberryjam):

Well how many inches are in a foot?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

12

OpenStudy (istim):

I feel so stupid now.

OpenStudy (raspberryjam):

So then 6/12 = ? Then you should divide both sides of the ratio by the smallest number.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2 ft?

OpenStudy (raspberryjam):

No, 6 divided by 12.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

0.5?

OpenStudy (raspberryjam):

Yep, so then what is your ratio? It should be the height of tower:height of model tower.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so C?

OpenStudy (raspberryjam):

Yep you got it!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

phew, okay thanks
