Graph the relation in the table. Then use the vertical-line test. Is the relation a function? x y -2 3 -1 2 2 -1 4 -4

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

1-1 is a function, many to one is a function, many to many and one to many are not functions. Thus if there are 2 y's for one x you do not have a function, because it won't pass the vertical lines test.

OpenStudy (inkyvoyd):

Do you have a picture of the function?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

Link please.

If you run a vertical line (x=a) for it for all values of a, does it intersect more than once? In otherwords, if you take a ruler and vertically slide it across the function, is there any point in time that the ruler crosses the function more than once? (The answer is no, so the graph *is* a function)
