how do we calculate for discounts
Depnds on the discount. There's different kinds, you know...
what if the discount is 25%
then you take 25% off of the total. The total is 100% right? So then you take 100% (total)-25%(discount)=75%. Thus it is 75% of the original value. Then you multiply the price by 75%, and you have your answer.
kk, thanks
Here's a worked out example for you to follow: An item originally priced at $55 is marked 25% off. What is the sale price? First, I'll find the markdown. The markdown is 25% of the original price of $55, so: x = (0.25)(55) = 13.75 By subtracting this markdown from the original price, I can find the sale price: 55 – 13.75 = 41.25 The sale price is $41.25. http://www.purplemath.com/modules/percntof2.htm
the way i do it is original amt - (100% - given discount rate)
wait...scratch that...that's the way my mother does it..i wouldn't take credit..mothers are really good when it comes to sales and discounts after all >:))
original amt*(100 - given discount rate) sorry for the typo error..it should be multiplication
