Explain to me how to graph 3x+2y=-8 (Pretend that I know nothing about how to graph and you are teaching me. Be sure to explain so that when I read only your response I can graph without looking at a book or anything else.

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

step 1 get your expression you a standard from that is easy to graph \[y=mx+b\]. to get \[3x+2y=-8\] into this form first minus three x from both sides after this divide both sides by two

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

*get your expression into a standard form*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is it only one step?

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

no there a many steps

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

hopefuly you got \[3x+2y=-8 \]\[\downarrow\]\[y={-3 \over 2}x-4\]

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

step 2 would be to plot the intercepts the y-intercept is when x=0 plug x=0 into your equation this will give you a value for y the intercept will be at the point (0,b)

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

the x-intercept is when y=0 plug this into your equation and find the x-intercept (-b/m,0) plot this point

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

now get a ruler and make sure the two points are on the line, continue the line across the graph label things, you are done
