A spinner is divided into ten equal segments. Each segment is numbered one through nine and one segment is labeled with "Free Spin." Isaiah spins the spinner ten times and never gets a free spin. What is the probability that he will get a free spin on the eleventh try?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

each spin is independant, so it kinda depends on how you interpret the final question

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if you flip a coin 8 times, what is the probability that you get heads on the last flip?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

as is, i believe its the same probability as getting a free spin on the first try .....

OpenStudy (amistre64):

since we have 1 favorable outcome out of 10 possible outcomes; and a prob is measured between 0 and 1 the prob of a free spin, all other things being equal, would be 1/10

OpenStudy (jagatuba):

I believe you are correct amsitre

Consider the work of @jack at http://tinyurl.com/n6xx9jn ---------- 5 Odd segments 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 5 Non-odd segments 2, 4, 6, 8, Free Spins from the past have no influence on future spins, so the chance is 5/10 = 50%
