the second deravative of sin2x is?

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

is this sin^2(x) or sin (2x)??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what does second deravitive mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

you take the derivative...then take the derivative of the first derivative

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do i do that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

steps please

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

which is it? sin ^2 (x)? or sin (2x)? tehy have different derivatives

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sin (2x)

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

expand it first...it's (2sinx)(cosx)...so take the derivative by product rule... 2sinx(-sinx) + cosx(2cosx) -2sin^2x + 2 cos^2x is the first derivative...now derive this again -4(sinx)(cosx) + 4(cosx)(-sinx) -4(sinx)(cosx) - 4(cosx)(sinx) that is equal to... -8(sinx)(cosx) yes?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got -4sin2x

OpenStudy (lgbasallote):

yeah..that's correct too...it's just in a condensed/simplified form

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok
