What is the cooperation between the muscular and skeletal systems?

OpenStudy (raspberryjam):

Well when you use your muscles...what happens?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you move?

OpenStudy (raspberryjam):

Okay now what does the skeletal system include..not only your bones but also...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry, I'm not good in biology! That's why I came here :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but 'maybe' the answer to your question is joints?!

OpenStudy (raspberryjam):

It's okay, the skeletal system includes your bones, tendons and ligaments. And yep, joints too, but joints don't really have anything to do with muscles. However tendons and ligaments do!

OpenStudy (raspberryjam):

Well actually I made a mistake, lol. Tendons are the only ones that really involve muscles and bones. Ligaments have to do with bones.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, the bones at the joints are held together by ligaments right?

OpenStudy (raspberryjam):

Well technically joints are just where two pieces of bones fit into each other, they kind of connect. There are certain types of joints that have ligaments...moveable joints for example. But for this question the thing you should focus on are tendons.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So..what is the final answer?

OpenStudy (raspberryjam):

You should look up what tendons do...then there's your answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wait, I think it's written somewhere!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yup! Here: A tendon is a strong connective tissue that attaches muscles to bones.

OpenStudy (raspberryjam):

Yep so see the connection now between the skeletal system and muscles?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes :) So.. the answer is tendon?

OpenStudy (raspberryjam):

Yep, I think you should include how tendons work though..like include a definition of tendons in your answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, thank you so much!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you want to understand how muscles cooperate with the skeletal system, you need to think about what would happen if the muscles weren't attached to anything. Would we still be able to move?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I don't think so.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right. If they just got shorter and longer without pulling anything, that wouldn't be very useful. So certain types of muscles, the skeletal muscles are actually attached to the skeleton via tendons, and they're what allow you to move.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks for the info =DD
