Can somebody please please give me a list of effective transitions for academic essays? Also, I need a number of effective ways to insert quotes into my argument. My teacher says my conclusion is far too dry. Does anybody know great ways to end essays?

List of Effective Transitions: Henceforth and always... That having been said... As was stated earlier but will be repeated again here... And as I read in a lavatory one time... For your conclusions, use less Vermouth. And I always use a period to end the essay. Works every time. But seriously, post an excerpt of your writing somewhere. We are here to help.

ok cool. My English seems to dislike any form of obvious transitions though. Does anybody know why?

You are probably over-thinking it. Write like you speak. Then fix the spelling and remove the profanity.

I like to end my essays with an "almost-summary," really quite like the intro paragraph, but NOT A REPETITION OF IT :P Think: what have you accomplished in the essay that brings a new light to your topic? Incorporate that into your ending. In an analytical essay for history or social sciences, try to reach into the future: what do you think will happen next as a result of what you have already discussed? Leave the reader with something to think about.

Quotes are easier to use and read when you want to say something but can find a quote from someone that says it better. Just slip it in and continue with your paragraph - quotes should be part of a coherent phrase, not something that was added at the last minute. As for transitions, I wouldn't worry too much about them. Just make sure that the connection between each paragraph and the next is logical.
