How do antibiotics work to cure bacterial infections

the answer depends on the kind of antibiotic you want to know, but basically by inhibiting bacteria growth.

As phascolarctos said - it depends on what type of antibiotic.  Penicillin for instance breaks apart / impedes the cell wall production of certain bacteria, so if they can't make a cell wall then their insides and whatnot are available for destruction. Others hinder translation of proteins, meaning that they'll attach in the ribosome and won't allow for proteins to be properly translated, and since proteins are the workhorses of a cell, if no proteins are made then the cells cant grow and will die off, etc.
