Salt 3 boxes for $1.99. What is the cost of 16 boxes of salt? Please help me

OpenStudy (chriss):

If you divide $1.99 by 3, you will get a unit cost for the salt. Once you have that, you can multiply that by 16 to get the cost of 16 boxes.

$9.95 is the answer?

OpenStudy (chriss):

That isn't what I got. $1.99/3 is $.6633333333 or 66 and one third cents. Multiply that by 16 and you get $10.61333333 which also leaves a fraction of 1/3 of a cent. Since you can't break up pennies, I would bump the answer up to $10.62. Not quite the normal rounding rule, but again, you can't break a penny up so you'd most likely pay the next increment up.

um yeah true.. Thanks you
