It's a trick question. You're suppesed to use process of elimination

OpenStudy (zarkon):

Pythagorean theorem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is 12 the length of the full chord or half?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ zarkon oh right, duh...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

make a right triangle with 16 and 12, and x being the hypotenuse. Use the pythagorean theorum to find the length of x

OpenStudy (zarkon):

12 must be half of the cord

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if you draw a line between the center and the intersection of the chord, you get a nice little triangle with the radius as the hyp, and then, it's all gravy from there

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a=12/2=6 b=16 a^2+b^2=c^2 substitute & solve

OpenStudy (zarkon):

I think you want to use a=12

OpenStudy (zarkon):

then you get a Pythagorean triple

Thank you guys!!! That helped!!!
